After reading Yucca's DB, I was messing around in The NBA Geek geek website and came across this link to Patrick Minton (NBA Geek's administrator) being interviewed claiming that tanking really doesn't work. He also has a short article about the same thing.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts about his argument (please listen before responding) and how it may or may not apply to the Jazz upcoming season. By the way, he believes that winning is much more important than market (size or other type of desirability) in attracting free agents.
Does anybody know of any other attempt to quantitatively evaluate the idea that you need to bottom out before becoming very good in the NBA?
