Recap: Dallas Mavericks Use Evasive Maneuvers Vs Jazz Tank

Dallas Mavericks 108 Utah Jazz 101

The Utah Jazz fell to the Dallas Mavericks 108 - 101.  Honestly, it was a fun game.  It featured tons of lead changes, a turn back the clock Richard Jefferson dunk (which is sort of becoming a common occurrence), and the bench providing some great production.  Part of me thinks I was one of the few people that knew this game happened.

The Jazz led after 1, trailed after 2, trailed after 3, then ran out of juice in the 4th.  The F5 lineup got to finally see some time together.  About 2 minutes worth of time ... at the end of the 4th quarter ... when the game was out of reach.  Sooner or later this topic needs to be addressed.  The Jazz are the NBA free agent version of "He's Not That Into You".  Honestly, it's just a one/two year fling with a lot of these guys, Williams, Jefferson, Howard, Harris, Bell, Foye, and so on.  Yet, these free agents continually earn more time and attention on the floor than guys on contract for the foreseeable future.

The Good

  • Trey Burke.  He had himself a game going for 20 points and 6 assists.  It helps he faced Devin Harris, Jose Calderon, and Monta Ellis, but he held his own.  He also is getting to the rack and making his layups.  Good progress.
  • Enes Kanter.  It will be easy to point out his +/- but to point that out while ignoring Richard Jefferson's -9 would be awful.  Enes Kanter had 18 points and 11 rebounds in only 28 minutes.
  • Richard Jefferson's turn back the clock dunk.  IT WAS NASTY.
  • Alec Burks' 8 assists.
  • Favors D.  He was a difference maker ... but

The Bad

  • Derrick Favors in foul trouble.  Stay on the floor young man.  It's hard enough to not be forgotten about on the bench with this coaching staff.  Don't make it easier to be forgotten by getting in foul trouble early.
  • Marvin Williams (ever since I wrote about his success) has taken up the role of Andris Biedrins.  He was 1-4 from the field for 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, 1 turnover.  Jan Vesely called.  He wants his box score back.
  • Richard Jefferson thinking he's Kobe (4-12 FG and 1-5 3PT) and dominating the ball.  Same with Alec Burks.  Alec, we know you have the best off the dribble skills of anyone on the team.  Going one on one early in the shot clock is no good.

The Ugly

  • Sitting Kanter almost the entire 3rd quarter.  I know he played most of the 4th but he had the hot hand and helped the Jazz get back into the game at the end of the 2nd quarter.  His reward?  The bench until he's out of rhythm.
  • This.

And The Tank

The Jazz are now tied for the fourth worst record in the league.  Start filling out those change of address forms, Wiggins.  We're coming for you.
