so i know the draft takes precedence to free agency (as does hiring a coach IMO) but i cant help but go back to the looming decision on gordon hayward. thus, i felt the need to create this post. (note: i fully admit that i havent been able to keep up with the site recently as much as i would have liked so apologies if this has been discussed and i missed it).
i feel we can all pretty much agree that gordon took a pretty sizable step back this season. maybe it was an off year, maybe he cant handle being the go to guy, maybe he had too many late nights online with the videogames, who knows, but the result is the same, i dont think he is worth anywhere near the contract we gave favors. assuming that he still wants that type of money (and why wouldnt he?) ive been warming to the idea that the jazz need to move on from GH.
so, the way i see it (and the way new pistons coach SVG sees it) gordon isnt worth more than about $8mil/yr. i like gordon, i think he fits with the roster and helps us in the long run. if the jazz can sign him around that number then lets bring him back with open arms. anything more than that and i see a kirilenko type situation in the future where yeah he is contributing and is a fan favorite but he isnt "the guy" and the jazz suffer. (and anyway im of the opinion that its finally time we see alec assume a regular starting role)
so, in summary, am i alone? do the jazz bring hayward back regardless of what he wants? is it time to move on? what are other jazz fans thinking? am i alone here?
