"Want, Maybe, Meh"--Draft Edition

Now I know that a lot of draft stuff has been hashed and rehashed and will be for the next month until the draft, but why not throw my "Wannabe GM" hat into the ring.

With the Jazz picking 12th, there's a few guys there that I think would be a great fit. (And yes, I'm one of those guys that is a "draft for need" nerd. Don't know what it is, but it sucks seeing a guy drafted and totally doesn't fit what they need and then sits on the bench forever or gets shipped off somewhere else.) I have my own personal 3 categories of players I want the Jazz to get with the 12: Want, Maybe, and Meh

WANT

-Myles Turner: 7'0 240lbs C

-Kelly Oubre: 6'7" 203lbs SF

-Rondae Hollis-Jefferson 6'7" 211lbs SF

-Willie Cauley Stein: 7'1" 242 C

(Oh, and before I continue, DraftExpress and their player profile videos are really good if you want to do your own scouting and what not.)

As you could tell, I feel like an area to bolster up some depth is at the 5 and backup wing behind Hayward. Turner is my highest hopeful guy because of his size and shooting touch. He's young and has yet to really fill out. Cauley-Stein is like Gobert-lite; shot blocker with good intangibles. His offense is limited to near the basket, but his shooting wouldn't be what you're drafting. With Oubre and RHJ, both are long wings that can grow to be defensive stars. Both need work on their shooting, especially RHJ, but they don't need to be the bulk of the scoring at all. With LeBron, Durant, Melo, etc. those guys always seem to have career nights against the Jazz. Develop Oubre or RHJ and that could change. Something David Locke said is what I agree with is that DL is going to look at guys with the intangibles and a lot of things you can't teach. Get those guys and then teach those things which are correctable (like shooting) and you have a really solid player.

MAYBE

Frank Kaminsky: 7'1" 230 C

Bobby Portis: 6'11" 246 PF

Devin Booker: 6'6" 206 SG

Kaminsky is the classic stretch 4-5 guy with really good range. The big knock on him from a lot of people is who does he defend in the NBA, which is pretty legitimate. I don't think he'll be THAT bad, but that's the gamble with him. Plus, some don't want him because he's white, but that's another rant for another day. With Portis, that guy is INTENSE, a lot of KG comparisons. He can shoot, defend, athletic, long, yada yada. I should probably watch more of him, but I like what I saw. Not sure if he can play alongside Favors or not. And Booker is a good spot-up shooter with range. The knock on him though is his defense and that he'll simply be a spot shooter. Not sure if that's the worst thing ever to be known for, but hey...I don't buy into his rebounding numbers and assists being low because we all know how totally STACKED Kentucky was. When you have at least four 7-footers on your team, not many rebounds are going to the SG.

MEH

Kevon Looney: 6'9" 222 PF

Trey Lyles: 6'10" 241 PF

Sam Dekker: 6'9" 219 SF

Now... these guys aren't ones I hate or anything like that, but just don't think they fit really well into what the Jazz are doing, but that's just my opinion. A lot of people love Looney and his analytics are great, but to me nothing really stood out to me. He's long and is one of the better rebounders in the draft, but his offense didn't impress me. His position is worrisome too, is he too small to guard 4s and is he not fast enough to guard 3s? Who knows, but nothing too outstanding for me. Lyles is basically Favors...size wise and skill set. He can shoot a little better sure but...yeah. Similarly, Dekker is like Hayward. All the "Meh" guys are similar to what is already there on the team.

So there ya go. My first FanPost. Let me know what you all think!
