Bill Simmons grades the trades

Simmons gives the Deron Williams trade generally an A-minus, saying it was a no-brainer for New Jersey and was "[w]ell played" on our end. He then naturally goes on to jab Jazz fans about the "see, I was right about Chris Paul being better than Deron Williams!" thing, never mind the fact that he's flip-flopped on that debate more than the average politician does on government spending (and I'm still not sure exactly how this trade proves that Chris Paul is better, but whatever). He redeems himself with what he probably didn't intend as a "Princess Bride" reference, but, as a member of this blog, I'm naturally choosing to interpret it that way: "Jazz fans are like Sicilians: You don't mess with them." That's right, never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

Are the Jazz a "trade deadline winner" now that the dust has settled?

Utah got quite a haul for giving up the best point guard in the NBA: a 28-year old former All-Star point guard, a 19-year old 6’10 250 big man taken #3 overall in last year’s draft and two 2011 lottery picks (the Nets and their own). Going forward, the Jazz have two 2010 lottery picks (Favors and Gordon Hayward), two more in 2011 as well as attractive trade pieces in Devin Harris, Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap. If they draft well and move the veterans who don’t "fit" with their new young core for more prospects, they shouldn’t be down too long.

Maggette trade?

This would give us a starting lineup of Williams, Miles, Maggette, Millsap, and Jefferson. Not bad in terms of starting scoring 5. Jazz pick up a wing scorer in Maggette and 2 players which are only 1 year contracts. Saves them money this season as well. Hornets pick up AK who's been better than Ariza. Also gives them a huge expiring contract for next season and gives them a solid vet in Bell to fill out the SG. Bucks save money and pick up Ariza which helps their defensive mentality. Jazz would probably have to throw in a draft pick to sweeten the pot. Thoughts?

(Photo Credit C.Shah) Andrei Kirilenko was spotted last night in Las Vegas dancing in a "no way is his ankle sprained" manner on a riser in a dance club. Some guys I know were in town for a Bachelor Party and happened to get this picture with the magnanimous Russian. I also do not approve of the hipster mustache, but AK is cool with it, so who am I to judge?

Fan reaction to Sloan resigning: Everybody that's said something to me has said they support me, they're behind me and they're fans of me. Other than a couple hecklers in the crowd, I haven't really heard anything bad from our fans. Our fans have been great to me.

PK about D-Will

This is how I feel about Deron and the situation that went down with Sloan.
