NBA Free Agency 2014 Podcast: Are the Charlotte Hornets your new favorite team in the East?

Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

Lance Stephenson just signed, and they have a young group of guys mixed in with some former Jazz players.

Even MOAR Free Agency 2014 talk! It seems like this season the team some Utah Jazz fans root a little harder for in the Eastern Conference could easily be the Charlotte Hornets. They brought the Hornets name back to Charlotte, so obviously there's the nostalgia factor. But there's also the whole Big Al-gia factor as well. Al Jefferson is the straw that stirs the drink there, but their General Manager Rich Cho has moved mountains in order to get a team that can compete, and maybe even be a team that gets homecourt in the first round of the playoffs.

I'm no Michael Jordan fan, I detest him actually, but the Horncats have a pretty interesting team right now. They're not a finished product, but you can argue that a team with Al Jefferson, Lance Stephenson, Marvin Williams, Kemba Walker, Cody Zeller, Noah Vonleh, P.J. Hairston, Gary Neal, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is one of the better ones on paper, in the East. Especially with LeBron James changing addresses, and many teams making sideways (at best) moves, the East is a lot more open than previously suspected.

Phil Naessens and I talk about the free agency shakeup in the East, and focus on the Hornents, and talk about the Cleveland Cavaliers in a derisive way. (But I got to bat for David Blatt, whom I think will be the best coach in LeBron James ' career.)

While we didn't get into the massive free agency signing in the West (mainly the Trevor Booker signing), it's obvious that there are plenty of things to get hyped about. And if you are going to have a team in the East, the Hornets may be the prime candidate. Even if you sold all your Bismack Biyombo stock a while ago, like I did.
