Top Grooming Moments in Utah Jazz Team History: Raul Lopez is every member of a boyband

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm sure the dudes on boy bands are talented. And don't take this the wrong way, Raul Lopez was really talented too -- he was a European PG taken by the Utah Jazz ahead of a number of other players (of probably better quality), like Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs. While Parker has gone on to be a multiple time All-Star and NBA Champion, Lopez has gone on from injury to injury playing in various lower level teams, and perhaps also night clubs and for the right price, boudoirs of rich widows. (Yeah, like some kind of Midnight Cowboy thing)

Effectively the Spanish Blur was a better looking player than he was actually a player who could play the game. No, Raul Lopez has no rings, no All-Stars -- but he was the MVP of a completely different league. The League of athletes who were just an autotuned voice away from being in a Boy Band.

Raul wasn't a one trick pony either -- he's had many looks over the years. So many that he could be every member of a boyband, by himself. He was the cute, harmless boy next door. He was the smooth lady killer. He was the funny dumb one. He was the 'tough' one (can't you see that sliver of facial hair!) as well. And he was also the one with unnaturally blonde hair and too much product.

Raul was a five tool PG, just off the court. He was the mathematical inverse of Mark Eaton and his epic beard. But it just goes to show you that when you are looking at the Utah Jazz, you're looking at a team made up of so many different styles, looks, feels, and internet predator threat levels (I see you Olden Polynice). And mixing up all these different styles is what the Jazz is all about.

Top Grooming Moments in Utah Jazz Team History: Mark Eaton's Beard of Destiny

As a smart NBA fan you know that the Utah Jazz have had some of the most stylish players, ever. We know about Karl Malone's flashy clothes for attending unbelievable functions. Tom Chambers (when he played here) used to wear the Canadian Tuxedo well past its' expiration date. And well, Greg Ostertag knew how to dress up (or down). There is a true style king of the Jazz: Mark Eaton. Some of you already know Mark Eaton. He is the 7'4, NBA fourth round pick out of UCLA who was actually discovered working as an auto mechanic. He is, clearly, a man-mountain. He once almost recorded 500 blocks in a single season. Wow

He also has an epic Beard of Destiny.

Somehow "wow" isn't enough anymore.

He wasn't just some wild frontiersman. He spent a long time on his signature style, and it shows. For a professional critique by Megan Ann Wilson (@SheGotGame) , and possibly my greatest work in my life, click on below!

AJ2012 Promotion: Dwyane Wade Flies through the competition

March 7, 2012; Miami, FL, USA; Miami Heat small forward LeBron James (left) grabs shooting guard Dwyane Wade (center) after Wade dunked the ball past Atlanta Hawks guard Kirk Hinrich (right) during the second half at American Airlines Arena. Mandatory Credit: Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

Yesterday I wrote about how I love passes and defense, but nothing beats a good dunk. The Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade is one of the best in the league, and was voted as the best out of the selected Jordan Brand Athletes by YOU the readers at SBNation. Check it out, in all of his glory, over here!

Free Contest: AJ2012 Fly Around, Fly Through, or Fly Over? Pick the winner

It should come as no surprise that the SB Nation blogs are doing a promotion for these Air Jordan kicks. I don't necessary love shoes beyond the fact that it's easier to do things in them outside of my house wearing 'em than going barefoot. I'm clearly the minority here, as a basketball junkie who isn't crazy about 'em. I know some of you guys are. There was an on-going 'tournament' between examples of Jordan Brand athletes flying around, flying through, or flying over their opponents. It's now down to three Highlights -- and you get to pick who is the winner.

It's an off-day for our Utah Jazz, so I should I would step up to the plate and show you guys what an All-NBA type of player is capable of doing in a highlight. Do we have any guy capable of doing big things like this? The only guy I can think of right now would be Alec Burks in 4 years. I could be wrong though. Maybe Big Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap will be an All-NBA Player one day. Today's not that day though. Today is the day where you get to vote on the winner.

Vote here!

Cool Chance to Vote on Highlights: Flying Through Guys

I grew up watching 1980s basketball. Sure, back then we had teams like the Showtime Los Angeles Lakers -- but not every team was built up of fast-breaking gazelles. A lot of the time we had fundamental problems of dynamics, particularly where Force = Mass x Acceleration. I love physical basketball, if I didn't I don't think I could be a Utah Jazz fan. Take some time to visit this link and vote on which of the following highlights is the best. I love it when guys use speed and power to finish a play with force.

Check out these players Flying Through guys! (Hey, it's better than worrying about Luke Ridnour for a few minutes in our day)

Also, after the jump ... some Karl Malone dunks because Karl Malone is awesome.

Utah Jazz Rookie Alec Burks / @AlecBurks10 : The #GameChanger

Photo

Alec Burks is a rookie, so that means in the feudal system / hard forced labor camp that is the Utah Jazz -- we're not going to get to see a lot of him this year. Only a few guys in recent memory have broken through to get significant playing time as a Rookie under our "Vets Yes, Youth No!" regime: Wesley Matthews in 2009-2010; Paul Millsap in 2006-2005; Deron Williams in 2005-2006; and Andrei Kirilenko in 2001-2002. That's a pretty good group of people right there, it would not be absurd to put Alec Burks up in that echelon after a few seasons though. Why? Because from what little we've seen of him he's a GameChanger.
