Talking Utah Jazz with Pounding the Rock and Raptors HQ
I love the Utah Jazz, and it is a blast to get an opportunity to talk about them to other people. (Again, during times of my life I was clearly the only Jazz fan in a 1000 mile radius) I had a chance to talk with two our of SBN sister-sites about the Jazz recently.
- Pounding The Rock 's JR and I go over the Utah Jazz / San Antonio Spurs series and what the Spurs have to look forward to in the Los Angeles Clippers, and how many games it will be. (Check it here)
- Up at Raptors HQ I was asked by Adam to talk about the Jazz, and where they are as a franchise / compare them with the Toronto Raptors. I did so here, and their readers did a poll about it here, to decide which team they thought was in better shape.
These are classical Jam sessions, but we're trying to do a bunch of new stuff here at SLC Dunk. You guys will be happy with it in the end. Yep, we're in pre-season mode here already. No off-season for this blog!
NBA Playoffs 2012 Spurs Vs. Jazz Jam Session #4: The Spurs defense, Jazz youth, and moving on with Pounding The Rock
Hey SLC Dunkers, here's Part 4 of our on-going Jazzy Jam Sessions with Pounding the Rock's SpursfanSteve. Game 1 went pretty much the way I expected it would -- the San Antonio Spurs won and won big. Game 2 was the shell shock blowout that we also all expected. Game 3 had the Jazz being in it for half the game. The Spurs can complete the sweep tonight with a win. We talk a bit about what we learned about the Spurs, who on the Jazz is worth keeping, what Gregg Popovich is going to do moving forward -- and who they'd like to face in the next round. And be sure to check here for my answers to Steve's questions too!
NBA Playoffs 2012 Spurs Vs. Jazz Jam Session #3: Manu, player development, and taking it easy with Pounding The Rock
Hey SLC Dunkers, here's Part 3 of our on-going Jazzy Jam Sessions with Pounding the Rock's SpursfanSteve. Game 1 went pretty much the way I expected it would -- the San Antonio Spurs won and won big. Game 2 was the shell shock blowout that we also all expected. The Spurs are in the driver's seat and everything the Jazz have done hasn't worked. We talk a bit about what we saw, and be sure to check here for my answers to Steve's questions too!
NBA Playoffs 2012 Jazz Vs. Spurs Jam Session #2: Pounding the Rock's SpursfanSteve talks Tony Parker, Tiago Spliiter, and Boris Diaw
Hey SLC Dunkers, here's Part 2 of our on-going Jazzy Jam Sessions Pounding the Rock's SpursfanSteve. Game 1 went pretty much the way I expected it would -- the San Antonio Spurs won and won big. NBA Playoffs 2012 Jazz Vs. Spurs Jam Session #1: Pounding the Rock's SpursfanSteve sits down with SLC Dunk
Hey SLC Dunkers, we're going to get to know the San Antonio Spurs very well in the next two weeks. And we're also going to get a chance to interact with their fans as well. They know their stuff, after all, they got to watch a lot of good, fundamental basketball for a decade or so.
Pounding the Rock's SpursfanSteve and I got a chance to ask each other some questions. My answers are over there on their site, and SpursfanSteve's answers are after the jump.
Jazz Vs. Clippers Jam Session - Q and A with Steve Perrin from Clips Nation (SBN Los Angeles Clippers Blog)
Q and A with Steve Perrin from Clips Nation (SBN Los Angeles Clippers Blog)
Tonight the Utah Jazz face off against the Los Angeles Clippers. Steve (@clippersteve) was awesome enough to throw me a few questions this week, and I just had to answer them. In return I thought of a few to ask him as well . . . and here are his answers!
Jazz Jam Session: December 2011
You may remember when we did this last time we were in the middle of the NBA Lockout. Now things are going at the speed of light. Free agency continues unabated, teams are taking shame all around the league – and the players are sweating in training camp. Jazz fans, bloggers, and tweeps are in the middle of training camp as well. For this session we’re going to use less players as last time, and hopefully make it shorter, and sweeter. Today’s Jam Session features:
- Brothers Mike (@RxMike12) and Brett (@BJCSeven)
- Neil (@Neildos (y’know, @UpprBowlJazzFan))
- Sean (@Scrantonicity33)
- Doug (@Bluemoon_76)
- Zach, our resident (@Bittermormon)
- and Diana (@DianaAllen)
Listen to us Jam (er, read us Jamming?) about the lockout, what we missed, and the amnesty clause, after the jump.

Jazz Jam Session: September 2011
As the leaves change colors, and most of my football teams usually eliminate themselves from contention, I – like a great number of other Jazz fans, I’m sure—annually turn my attention back to the NBA. This is the time of the year where players should be holding informal team workouts, and training camps are supposed to start. This isn’t one of those years though. That doesn’t mean that we fans have a right to slack off and come into training camp (whenever it is) in Eddie Curry shape.
This month I fired off a few quick questions to an esteemed group of Jazz fans. They are none other than:
- The big boss man himself, Basketball John (Twitter: @SLCDunk ; SB*Nation: Basketball John; SLC Dunk)
- Clark (Twitter: @JazzingItUp ; SB*Nation: clarkpojo)
- Clint Peterson (Twitter: @Clintonite33 ; SB*Nation: Clintonite33; TheUtahJazzBlog; and ShootHoops)
- Diana Allen (Twitter: @DianaAllen ; SB*Nation: DianaAllen; Utah Jazz 360)
- Special guest Jody Genessy (Twitter: @DJJazzyJody ; Jody’s Jazz Blog at the Deseret News)
- The irreplaceable Moni (Twitter: @Monilogue; SB*Nation: Moni; Living and Dying by the Jazz)
- Spencer Ryan Hall (Twitter: @SaltCityHoops; ESPN Truehoop affiliate Salt City Hoops)
- Sujal Shah (Twitter: @Utesfan89; SB*Nation: UtesFan89)
- Yucca Man (Twitter: @YuccaManHoops; SB*Nation: Yucca Man)
- … and myself, Amar (Twitter: @AllThatAmar) ; SB*Nation: AllThatJazzBasketball)
Hopefully, each month we can have fun with this. This doesn’t mean everyone in today’s round table has to be on the hook for something every few weeks; we can play around with this and make this a truly progressive fan (doesn’t matter if you blog, are paid to blog, or just watch at home) dialogue. We already know the big money guys read our little blog (Hi Christi Yates, executive assistant to Kevin O’Connor!) , it’s a great way for them to keep tabs on the pulse of the Jazz die-hard fan (for free, Greg Miller). Over three hundred words of preamble is long enough, on to the round table!
