The student has become the teacher

Well, not quite. And we probably won't even see Deron Williams and Eric Maynor go head-to-head unless Westbrook gets into foul trouble or something.

Kind of a big game tonight as the Thunder are only a game back of the Jazz right now in the standings. A loss would drop the Jazz to the 9th spot in the West albeit relatively early in the season. You don't want to have games like this come back and haunt you when you need a tiebreaker at the end of the season.

The Thunder have won four straight including an impressive win @ Phoenix last week. Outside of that, they're beating all of the bad teams and losing to the good teams. The Jazz are just the opposite of course.

OKC has beaten the Jazz at the ESA already this year in a pretty embarrassing outing. The Jazz turned it over 24 times in that game including 16 in the second half with 10 in the fourth quarter. The damage might have already been done in the third though for that game.

Regardless of whether they win or lose tonight, the Jazz will finish December with a winning record for the month. I would hope they would improve on last year's 8-7 record, and they can, with a win tonight.

So after tonight, let's get ready to ditch 2009 (some of you already have), maybe get a trade starting out the new year, and get into the January-Feb tear that the Jazz normally have. We'll deal with March and April when we get there.

For those that have yet to celebrate, have a safe night and a Happy New Year.
