Big Country, never forget.

It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times.

Quick Recap:

  • Who: The Utah Jazz
  • What: scored 32 points in the second half
  • When: after scoring 33 points in the second quarter
  • Where: at home, dagnabit,
  • Why: because they hate me.

I just got home, I did not watch this game live. So now, at least, when I do watch it I will know our great play in the second quarter will just be an illusion as we got blitzed in the second half. The Grizz went on a 9-0 run against our starters, then a 14-2 run against our bench. And that was the ball game. Zach Randolph had 25 and 16. No one else was remarkable for them, and they shot 44.7 fg% while getting 18 offensive rebounds.

Hmmm. I think I said that in the game preview . . . something about offensive rebounds . . . I hope that was in the correct context though.

For the Jazz Al Jefferson had 21 points, 8 rebounds, and even made a three. He managed to be -19 in the +/- column for his efforts. The Jazz' once prolific outside shooting seems to have collapsed like a house built on sand. We've lost our second home game of the season.

And people are angry.

Some of the ire shouldn't be wasted on just our team, the Grizzlies are much better than us, even if we match up well with them on paper. They were a few calls away from getting to the second round last year. Their calling card is defense. And they showed us that as improved as our offense is -- it's not unsolvable. We shot 29.4% from deep while playing a lot of minutes to our new three point acquisitions. Marvin Williams, Mo Williams, and Randy Foye went a combined 1/8 from deep. Off the bench DeMarre Carroll, Jamaal Tinsley, and Gordon Hayward went a combined 3/7.

Guess which group is more regularly known for their defense.

Still, and I mean this, still -- it's just one game. We're better than this. And we'll show it in time. Good Game, Grizzlies. You have a great set of players and an experienced coach.
