Game 61: Utah Jazz 98 @ Memphis Grizzlies 103

Last night the Jazz deserved to lose, but tonight they deserved to win. Period.

By taking the role of a contrarian and devil's advocate in my writing I RARELY get to bring out the pom poms and cheerlead for this team. I do love this team, and would want nothing more than to just cheer for this team and write happy stories. Tonight the Jazz deserved to win, and this loss hurts more than last night.

I didn't expect a win, on paper. But when the ball goes in the air and the game is played -- I pray for the Jazz to dominate. They held their own today and as a road team facing tough odds, playing the 5th game in 7 nights, they do everything they needed to in order to win.

Except they were not awarded a fair chance to win. And they lost by 5 points. The Grizz went to the line twice as much as the Jazz, 34 times, and won by 5 points.

Rudy Gay was the man for the Grizz (26 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks, 10 FTA, 1 three), and O.J. Mayo added 20 points off the bench (4/5 from deep, 6 FTA). Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph were contained. Al Jefferson, Devin Harris both had 20 points, Paul Millsap and Gordon Hayward added 17. Favors had a 10/14 double double off the bench and added 2 blocks.

We should have won this game. We played well enough to win this game. We deserved to win this game.

Sadly, we did not win this game. And this one hurts. The Jazz gave their all, and this plane ride home is going to be a quiet one.
