The Washington Wizards cut Roger Mason Jr. and signed the former Utah Jazz 1st round draft pick Morris Almond today. I'm happy he got the call up. He may not have been born to play basketball, but he has worked on his game for years and years to be trained to play basketball.
If you are like me, you care about former Jazz players -- even if they didn't turn out just as you planned they would. I felt like Morris Almond could be a rotation guy in this league. Not a star -- but a guy who (if on the floor with people clearly better than him, thus making him learn his place in the pecking order) you could reverse the ball to when your main guy gets doubled; and that when he got the ball when open, Almond could be a dude who can hit an open jumper. Think of a James Jones / Sasha Vujacic / Jud Beuchler (sp?) type of dude, but also a guy who could actually also make his own shot and get to the line. Instead Morris Almond got to do whatever the hell he wanted with the Utah Flash and never learned how to play Jazz basketball. The one time he was on the court with Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams he did well (had his best game in the NBA).
Good luck Morris. Prove KOC right by doing well in this stint and make an NBA roster next year! Some of us still believe in you!
