Game 3:San Antonio Spurs 102 @ Utah Jazz 90

Jazz show up, but can't secure the win at home

This was a very telling game. The first thing we saw was that we're a much better team at home. Duh. Second, we saw that the Spurs are a pretty good road team. The Jazz had a number of things go right in this game; however, the Spurs always had a good counter. They were more patient on offense then we were, and moved the ball around quite a bit. As a result they got good shots, and nearly shot 50 fg%, which is far from our performance.

San Antonio makes you have to defend every part of the floor, that Matt Bonner three before halftime was a great example of that.

On our side, things were much better. Devin Harris was active and pushed the ball up, his shot was falling for the most part, and he even went 3/5 from deep tonight. He also finished with 5 points -- which makes his 21 points loot a lot better. Tony Parker finished with 27 and 6. We expect Parker to be better, but not as dominating has he has been in the first two games. In Game three we had a fighting change because Devin stepped up.

Tyrone Corbin went to various "big" lineups today, but they could not solve the riddle of the Bonner / Tiago Splitter front court. Al Jefferson had a much better game. He had the time to get into rhythm and he (mostly) took good shots. He finished with 21/11. He also played defense. We need more of this.

Odds and Ends:

  • Josh Howard only show twice, and he made both. Both where within the flow of the offense. Wish he played in control like this more often
  • Gordon Hayward went 1/10 tonight and had a bad shooting night. It's bad that I kind of expect him to get chase down blocks on defense all the time now -- and am upset when he finishes a game without one. He was a great facilitator (5 dimes)
  • Alec Burks and Derrick Favors got to the line 14 times, and honestly, it should have been closer to 20. They came off the bench to give the Jazz an inside/outside attack -- and finished with a combined 26 points. Not bad for cookies.
  • Paul Millsap went 4/12 -- this is a problem.
  • Manu Ginobili 's hell continues, he had 6 points off of 2/6 shooting. Well, he did also have 10 assists, 5 rebounds and a block though . . .
  • The Spurs went 17/22 from the FT line, the Jazz went 14/26. Not so good.
