This is my first FanPost and first season following the Jazz AND this blog at the same time. It's definitely better to be part of a community, especially during a season like we have had so far. I used to follow the Jazz-blog-that-must-not-be-named by the four letter affiliate until they hired a new guy who, in an ironic twist, came from here which led me to discovering the awesome SLC Dunk blog and I've never looked back. I thought I would share with you a few of my thought and musings from the season so far. Also, I must say that the humorous comments posted by fans and followers of the blog have been the sugar that helps the crappy-season-medicine go down. Here are some things I've noticed this season:
1. It has been more than a few times this season that my wife and son have heard me yell this at the tv screen when Alec Burks takes a jumper: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING BURKS?!? YOU CAN'T TAKE THAT SH--NICE SHOT ALEC!!!" or "WHAT ARE YOU DOING BURKS?!? YOU CAN'T TAKE THAT SHOT!! YOU SHOULD HAVE PASSED IT TO--well just try and make it next time." I swear he shoots 90% on turn around jump shots with a hand in his face...then goes 1-6 from the FT line.
2. There is no better time for the Jazz to be the "suckiest bunch of sucks that have ever sucked (Simpsons quote)." To put the Jazz start in perspective here are a couple of reminders. The year before the Cavs got Lebron they went 17-65. They won two of their first four games and then lost 14 straight games. The Cavs didn't make the playoffs for the first two season with Lebron and then did alright for a bit. The Spurs wen 20-62 in the 1996-97 season the year after losing to the Jazz in the Western Conference Semi-Finals. That really hurt considering the high expectations the Spurs had but turned out ok for them since they ended up drafting Tim-ay that summer. They've done alright for a bit.
3. Will Jerry Sloan be the head coach for the Jazz again in the not-so-distant future? I've given this one a lot of thought. If he wants it, it's his...right? I think Dennis Lindsey will pick the best coach available when the time is right. If the Jazz start 0-20, it might be sooner rather than later. If Corbin is the best coach available and DL likes what he sees I think there is a possibility he stays. If Sloan wants to jump back in a HC role with the Jazz I think they'd be crazy not to go for it. My only concern is that the Jazz are likely to have a high-profile future All-Star joining the team from next year's draft. Although unlikely, I think a D-Will-ish repeat might be in the back of Sloan's mind...and possibly the Jazz organization's mind. I just don't understand why he reportedly interviews for HC jobs if he's not at least somewhat interested.
4. That's about all I got. Final random thoughts: The Gobert Report is fun to watch and he seems coachable. Favors seemed to throw a bit of a tantrum after getting benched at Indiana...whatever the reason, I don't like it. Hayward needs to stop disappearing for entire quarters and for the first 5 minutes he comes back into a game...he should touch the ball on almost every offensive possession the Jazz have. I think I prefer a nine-fingered Trey Burke to the current point guards on the roster...someone needs to make that happen. I can't figure out why Kanter is so much better with offensive rebounds than defensive boards...I have some theories, I'll get to the bottom of it and let you know. Lastly, Harris is always smiling...maybe the other teams are using that as motivation to beat the Jazz. Or maybe he just reads the SLC Dunk comments.
