Did you know that the Jazz hold the lead over the Mavs all-time in head to head play? Utah is 89-62 against Dallas, but are only 31-44 on the road. Last season the Jazz won the season series 2-1, but in the last three we're only 3-9. It's not looking good if you care about history and the directions these two teams are going. Dallas is 7-3 in their last 10 games, and have started this season a perfect 6-0 at home. Tonight could be another tough game for our guys because the Mavs are the fourth best team in the Western Conference right now . . . and we don't really play that great against top teams on their home court. Well, who am I kidding? We have one win this season in 13 tries. We don't play that great even on our home floor.
The Mavs have the third best offense in the league in terms of points per game (107.2 ppg), and they are fifth best in terms of offensive rating (109.7 points per 100 possessions). They take great shots, and make them. Also, as you could imagine with their vet roster, they get a lot of calls and get to the line. They don't hit the offensive glass and can turn the ball over a bit. But, let's be real -- they shoot 39.9 3pt% as a team. I'm not even going to undignify you with our 3pt%.
Their main money maker is still Dirk Nowitzki, but he's getting a lot of help this year from new addition guards like Monta Ellis and Jose Calderon. Bigman Samuel Dalembert is clocking the paint, and they still have a ton of wing depth with Shawn Marion, Vince Carter, and tweener Jae Crowder. They're a good team with one of the best coaches in the NBA in Rick Carlisle. Dallas is gunning for a long playoff jaunt this year. We're on entirely the other end of the spectrum.
But that's okay. Why is that okay? It's okay because of Trey Burke. We're just happy to see him on the floor. And hopefully we will see him on the floor for more than 12 minutes tonight.

Here's how the players stack up -- they're more balanced, but we're finally *kinda* healthy. And we don't know just what we can do at full strength. For the Mavs, Devin Harris (PG) and Brandon Wright (PF/C) are both out. Wayne Ellington (SG/SF) is questionable, and Shawn Marion (SF/PF) is probable. For the Jazz Andris Biedrins (C) is still out, and Marvin Williams (SF/PF) and Gordon Hayward (SG/SF) are both questionable. I have no clue what's going on with Brandon Rush (SG).
I'll give the overall edge to the Mavs. They're playing winning basketball, and at home. Usually that's enough to beat this version of the Utah Jazz. If Hayward is not going to play then we're really sunk. But hey, Trey Burke. That's what matters, right? He'll get a chance to go up against Shane Larkin a bit tonight. FUN! That's what basketball is supposed to be, after all.
