NBA Trade Deadline Jazzy Jam Session Round Table Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

Okay Jazz faneroos, the trade deadline is nigh! As a result, we all have worried and concerns for what's happening. What's the best way to deal with that? Yes, to hide under some coats and hope everything works out in the end. But we're Utah Jazz fans, and as a result, we will do more than the bare minimum in a time of crisis and discord! We held a Jazzy Jam Session around three simple questions. Not everyone got a chance to voice their opinions, but we did get responses from quite a few Jazz fans who write here. They are listed above, and you may or may not interact with any of them outside of this blog proper; however, I think this is a mostly representative sample of Jazz fans. Without further preamble, here's Question 3!

"Are the Jazz going to make a trade?"

Moni: If they do, it'll be some non-impact, inconsequential Raja-for-a-second-round-pick-in-2026-type trade.

BBJ: I'd be shocked if the Jazz pull off a deal before the deadline. Outside of the Deron Williams trade, the Jazz haven't made a deal to move a player that they thought they would lose to free agency. I don't think even losing the next three games before the All-star break pushes them into a move.

Kyle: Yes. Dennis Lindsey called me last night, drunk, and we're getting LeBron James! Kidding. I'm gonna say probably not. When KOC says the Jazz won't make a trade for the sake of making a trade, I believe him. However, as cliché as it sounds, anything is possible. I don't think the Jazz are planning to trade Al or Paul, but if the right deal comes along it could happen. Also, don't forget about our other players. I'd actually be less surprised to see someone not named Al/Paul/(Hayward/Favors) get traded.

Yucca: No. I've believed that from before the year started, and I believe it now. The only thing that changes this is if the Clips are really willing to trade Bledsoe.

UtesFan89: In my dreams. (Unless they find a taker for Raja Bell, then maybe. But I assume you meant a trade of some sort of significance to our team.)

Clark: Well, I'm sticking by my guns and I'm going to say that at the end of the day, the Jazz don't make any big trades. This is for several factors that include future flexibility, the difficulties in dealing expiring contracts for really substantial players, and due to the NBA trading climate being mild, in my opinion. I would love to be surprised, and I feel like the Jazz do the opposite of what I expect, but I expect nothing on the Jazz trade front. The reverse jinx is only somewhat intentional.

Andy: I don't think so. At best, I think we make a minor move: perhaps taking on Barea's or Ridnour's extra years from Minnesota in exchange for Raja Bell's expiring contract and a pick. Ultimately, though, I don't think the Jazz brass will find the value they expect from our players in this week's trade market. Not making a move now means preserving flexibility in the future.

Spencer: I don't think so.

Peter: Probably not. Every year all 30 NBA teams sign players and make trades in the months of June, July, August and September. Those are the ideal times to shake up a roster. Finding another team mid-season to match up with, that also meets the Jazz's needs is a difficult task. The likely moves would revolve around contending teams that would find value in adding the solid, but not spectacular talent that the Jazz could offer. The Jazz's modus operandi suggests that these teams aren't likely to offer the value that we'd want in exchange for the Jazz's current talent.

Amar: I'm really putting my neck out there because I've said that *if* the Jazz do nut up and make a trade that I will live-tweet the next Jazz game wearing a dunce hat while drinking a whole bottle of Tequila. So, as far as my liver and/or Klout score is concerned, I have something to lose if we do trade. And while I am more than okay with being wrong about something (I'm not some ego-maniac who will fight people for something dumb), I really don't think the Jazz will do anything. We're interested in gathering data about who this team is, and which parts work. We need as much data as possible -- you know because we need 3 years to do this. Also, trading someone means actually doing your job. I think we're a very reactive front office, we'll listen, but those angry birds aren't going to fling themselves. Utah will stand pat, and I won't have to get wasted online. Hopefully.
