Big Al revenge game Attempt #11

.

The Basics:

Head coach Tyrone Corbin made a change to his starting lineup and inserted Earl Watson at the point in for Jamaal Tinsley. Earl started off energized and was driving and dishing well, however, he did pick up two quick turn overs in the first quarter. Paul Millsap was his usual studly self, but the Boston Celtics were slow, methodical, and did not panic.

Marvin Williams was a point of emphasis for the Jazz and he finished with 15 points (5/10 fg, 2/2 from three, 3/4 from the line), with 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. This was the necessary bounce back game for Marvin; however, it felt way too much like those Andrei Kirilenko games that we'd have after he'd talk with Jerry Sloan. He'd bust out, he'd get more touches and produce. And then by the next week things will have regressed back to normal. Randy Foye did not have a bounce back game, he finished with 6 points off of 8 shots, and missed 4 three pointers. Both of these guys failed to score in the last game. Marvin was good, Foye was not.

The third player to not score last game was Jamaal, and he got a DNP-CD tonight.

So I guess heads are slowly rolling.

The Celtics as a team are rolling. After a solid first quarter they got down by 5 at halftime. And then after halftime went on to dominate the third with a 32-19 score. The Jazz were down 7 going into the fourth, and did make a game out of it. The game was really led by the Jazz crazy lineups, particularly those that featured Paul Millsap (16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks), Gordon Hayward (26 points, 4 threes, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block), and Alec Burks (8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal). DeMarre Carroll also had his all-around havoc type of game bailing our team out with end of the shot clock jumpers at times on his way to and 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assist night that included trying to stop Paul Pierce.

Pierce finished with 26 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds. He took over overtime like a star player needs to do. Kevin Garnett had 13 and 10 in addition. The Celtics had balanced scoring up and down the boxscore, but those two guys took over at the end. We didn't have a 'take over' player on the floor when it counted. Or if we did, we didn't get the ball to him. (Or he didn't move to the ball to get it...?)

Al Jefferson finished the game with 15 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, and was a -13 in +/-. That was worst on the team. Sadly, he also picks up another loss against Garnett and his Celtics and is now 0-11 against his old club, and the guy he was traded for.

With Garnett's status up in the air, and with the Celtics having so many options this off-season -- this may have been his last chance to get some revenge.

The Jazz lost a close game, but had their chances. We made 47% of our threes, and 88% of our fts. We had 15 offensive rebounds, and assisted on 59% of all our made field goals. We just couldn't get over the hump; which may be the macrocosm/microcosm criticism of this current Jazz team.
