The Downbeat #1158 - Another Media Day Edition

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

As you probably noted by the large yellow banner, Media Day is upon us. Prepare for the bombardment of cliche's, as noted last week.

With Media Day, means the return of Lang Whitaker's (NBA.com) MUSCLEWATCH. In this series, Lang tracks all of the weight gains mentioned by teams and players on Media Day, and leading up to the tip-off of the regular season. You should read it because its funny and Lang is an awesome Braves (#Barves) fan.

Media Day starts at 12:00 MT

9

Days until tip-off of the NBA's regular season. 30 days for the Jazz.

If you're a full on basketball junky, NBA.com will be showing the Media Day events for all the teams that will be televising them. You can find it here. You better hurry, the Bobcats' event starts at 9:30 MT

You've probably already heard, but yesterday the NBA's Competition Committee voted unanimously to change the format of the Finals back to 2-2-1-1-1. Not that this will have any impact on the Jazz, but it will be interesting to see what this does to the jockeying for the best record in the NBA going forward.

The article from NBA.com also has a little tidbit of why the format was changed to 2-3-2 in the first place.

Finally, I will use this spot to proclaim my elation at the return of NBA Inside Stuff. I loved the show when I was a kid, and am excited for a new generation of youngsters to get the chance to enjoy it. The show will air on NBAtv and will be hosted by Grant Hill and Kristen Ledlow.

Also showing on NBAtv during the offseason is NBNineties. Its in half hour segments and is kind of VH1 style with various people commenting on stories from every year of the decade. Its a lot of fun.
