The Los Angeles Clippers are supposed to be contenders in the Western Conference. They have a deep team with talent and powered by stars. They have a veteran coach who has won it all before, and a new owner (who has 20 times the net worth of the LHM Group of Companies). Things should be looking up for the franchise. And really, it should. Except the Clippers have faltered in each of their preseason games so far. At home, and after a few nights rest, it's likely that they are going to go fill sail tonight.
The surprising Utah Jazz are 4 and 0 this year, and doing so with a combination of tricky offense, new found three point shooting, and defense. For whatever reason teams aren't scoring on the Jazz, they average 88 points a game now after four contests. That's not a lot of points while the good guys still go for triple digits. The secret has to be length -- and a combination of our super sneaky bench coupled with key injuries for the other team.
Tonight the Jazz will face a mostly healthy Clipper club, and this will be a real test. Chris Paul and Trey Burke are a great match-up. Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan against our stable of younger guys is another. They are known for having a deadly bench, and our team is trying to develop one as well.
The only thing that isn't equal here is the star power, and thus, expect a lot of free throws tonight. For the Clippers.
It's going to be hard to beat the Clippers twice in a row, and win back-to-back games against LA teams. But these Jazz will try to do just that.
