The Utah Jazz withstood a 46 point game from Carmelo Anthony, and a startlingly effective New York Knicks defense (18 forced turn overs), to win in Madison Square Garden for the 13th time EVER. The Jazz found a way to finish this game, thanks to the take charge leadership of Gordon Hayward -- but NYC wouldn't quit. Head Coach (for now) Derek Fisher got what he wanted to finish the game as Melo scored and scored and scored, and hit a three with 2.3 seconds left to tie the game 100-100.

But then, well, they say a picture is worth 1,000 words; so:

(place holder)

It was a solid bounce back game for Trey Burke (3/5 from downtown, 13 points, +16 in +/-, with 8 assists and 2 turn overs . . . and a customary block), as Gordon Hayward finally got some help. Gordon did have 33 points, 6 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, and went 9/10 from the FT line. Derrick Favors hit two bit free throws down the stretch too, as he finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.

These were the players identified as the "big three" by their play during preseason. It is likely that tonight wasn't a fluke either. When the team is at their best it is when these three players are playing well. They didn't do it all by themselves (like Melo had to), but they were the major pillars of this win.

Alec Burks finished with 9 points on 9 shots, was routinely mugged and didn't get to the line (only 2-2 from the FT line tonight), but still had 4 rebounds and 4 assists and made a three. Enes Kanter only played 12 minutes tonight because there was no one for him to guard. He finished with 6 points (3/4 shooting) and 5 rebounds in that time though.

The bench mob did their duty, Joe Ingles passed and hit threes. Trevor Booker hustled and hit the glass. Rudy Gobert continues to be too crazy to describe (went 4/6 from the FT line, had 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist). And Dante Exum continues to be a great rookie. It wasn't his best game, but he still managed to hit a three and make some nice passes and plays on defense.

Utah avoids overtime, which is great. Because they have to fly to Canada tonight for their last game of this 5 game road trip. The Toronto Raptors are a very good team. It will be a fun game.
