Utah Jazz waive Jordan Hamilton

Roster now back down to 14

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Wow. Crazy news this morning, as the Utah Jazz announce that they have waved Jordan Hamilton.

SALT LAKE CITY (November 6, 2014) - The Utah Jazz announced today that the team has waived forward/guard Jordan Hamilton. Following the move, the Jazz roster now stands at 14 players (updated roster attached).

Hamilton (6-7, 220, Texas) was claimed off waivers by Utah on October 27 and was inactive for each of the Jazz's first five games.

This is a surprise to me, as the Jazz roster looked pretty good right now. Hamilton has not seen any game action for the Jazz, but Jordan is an actual NBA player, having seen action with the Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets (126 total NBA games). He's even played in the playoffs! He has played in the summer league, and in it has a PER of 24.44 in 9 games, and played in the preseason with the Toronto Raptors.

But as a SG/SF/PF there just isn't a lot of room when he's got to compete against Gordon Hayward, Alec Burks, Rodney Hood, and others for minutes. I thought he was supposed to be the better prospect than 27 year old rookie Joe Ingles, but Joe has the spot with the team still. And Jordan does not.

Hamilton is only 24 years old and was a 1st round pick (#26) back in 2011. It just wasn't a perfect situation here, and I, like the Jazz, wish him well.
