NBA Playoffs and/or Lottery seeding roundup -- While you were sleeping February 28th, 2014

All of the good, bad, and meh things that happened in the races we care about.

So now that we're tracking both the playoffs (the usual) and the lotto (the new) we have an expanded "While you were sleeping" schedule to track. Here was all the action from last night:

  • The Lakers beat the Kings, so, uh? Success?
  • The Jazz lost to the Cavaliers, putting +1.0 games between the two of us. As a result the Cavs went from 9th in the lotto to 11th in one night.
  • The Suns won! They beat the Pelicans, and are now only 1.5 games from the Warriors.

  • The Knicks lost to the Warriors, moving New York to 0.5 ahead of us, and moving Golden State to #6 in the West playoffs (they were #7 the night before).
  • The Grizzlies lost to the Thunder, moving the Grizz farther from the playoffs.
  • The Mavericks lost to the Bulls, flip-flopping with the Warriors.

  • The Bobcats lost to the Spurs. Stop the presses.

Tonight's Action:

Tonight is pretty busy, 12 of the 20 teams are playing.

  • The Bucks host the Nets, and these are two teams trying to go in opposing directions. I expect Brooklyn to win.
  • The Magic play against the Heat in South Beach, and yeah, Orlando should lose.
  • The Celtics host the Pacers, and of course, Boston should lose.
  • The Kings host the Timberwolves, and this is another obvious outcome. Sacramento should lose.

So all the teams with more losses than us should lose again

  • The Pelicans (now right on our butts) are visiting the Clippers and should lose.
  • The Pistons visit the Rockets and should also lose too.
  • And of course the Cavaliers visit the Grizzlies, and that should also be a loss.

So all the teams right behind us should lose tonight.

At the very least if Memphis wins then that helps us out with the (futile?) hope that GSW drops into the lotto.
