The Minnesota Timberwolves finished the season 40-42, the thirteenth worst record in the league. As a direct result, they have the thirteenth most ping-pong balls for today's NBA Draft lottery. In order to get a little more information on the Wolves we're going to Jam with CanisHoopus.com editor Eric Goldman (@canishoopus)!
Minny has a 0.6% shot at the top pick, so let's get Jammin'!
.
1. My team is only in the lottery this year because of __________, ________ , and __________ .
Eric: My team is only in the lottery this year because they couldn't win close games, the Western Conference was brutal, and they weren't good enough.
.
2. If we were drafting based on need, the top player on our draft board would be _________ .
Eric: If we were drafting based on need, the top player on our draft board would be Lebron James. Oh? Jabari Parker.
.
3. Historically the lotto has been _____ to my franchise.
Eric: Historically the lotto has been horrific to my franchise. The Wolves have NEVER moved up in the lottery. And have moved down several brutal times. For example: 1992, Wolves finish with worst record in the NBA, wind up picking third. First two picks? Shaq and Alonzo Mourning. Or 1993. Wolves 2nd worst record, wind up 5th with J.R. Rider. 1994: Tied with 2 other teams for 2nd worst record, the Wolves politely allow those teams ahead of them, wind up 4th missing out on Grant Hill and Jason Kidd, but getting Donyell Marshall! More recent you ask? OK. 2010, Wolves 2nd worst record, 4th pick in draft. Wesley. Johnson. 2011: Worst record, 2nd pick in draft missing out on Kyrie Irving, winding up with Derrick Williams. Ping pong balls filled with tears.
.
4. Our team deserves a Top 3 pick because __________ .
Eric: Our team deserves a Top 3 pick because otherwise Canis Hoopus might get relegated by the powers that be at SBN. Especially if Kevin Love gets traded.
.
5. Our team deserves the #1 pick because ___________ .
Eric: Our team deserves the #1 pick because of the bad luck noted above. And because Minnesota is cold. And because our superstar hangs in the balance. And because it's really hard to write about a losing team year after year after year.
.
Thanks Eric, and best of luck to your Minnesota Timberwolves!
