We all know that the 2014 NBA Draft is supposed to be a big deal. But history tells us that there was no better draft than the 1984 NBA Draft, 20 years ago. It's such an epic draft that NBA TV is doing special on it tonight at 7 pm MT.
This draft was led (in career win shares) by Michael Jordan (214.0), John Stockton (207.7), Charles Barkley (177.2), Hakeem Olajuwon (162.8), and Otis Thorpe (106.4). And rounding out that group were Kevin Willis, Sam Perkins, Michael Cage, Jerome Kersey, Vern Flemming, Alvin Robertson, and Jay Humphries -- they didn't have the epic career win shares, but they EACH played over 20,000 career minutes. That's remarkable.
Sometimes you don't need to say anything more than the fact that the 1984 draft produced three of the twelve 1992 Olympics Dream Team members. (Okay, well the 1985 draft had three as well in Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, and Chris Mullin, but still, not as epic a draft as '84).
Watch it on NBA TV. NAO!
