Las Vegas Summer League 2014: Game 1
Tournament Preview - Roster - Schedule
What to watch - Gobert's defense - Clark's reminder - Rookie's first steps - Burke's team
.
Today is the first game of the summer league for the Utah Jazz. It's going to be a pretty compelling fight between two lotto teams that won a combined -3437 games last year. There are a lot of rookies / younger players to take note of for both sides.
For the Philadelphia 76ers, let's just take a look at what I wrote a while ago:
Nerlens Noel is a beast, ready to show the world why he was supposed to be the #1 pick last year. Casper Ware is super fast, has good handles, a good shot, and a defensive pest. Elijah Millsap is Paul Millsap's little brother. Scottie Wilbekin is a great shooter. They have a lot of true rookies, guys who I just finished scouting in the combine and draft. They do have some experience with three guys having been in the league before. Personally, I know a few people will be cheering on Brandon Davies. He's a super nice guy. He also have legit NBA game.
Philly is pretty solid, they won the Orlando Summer League, and it was mainly because of their defense. Really. They played defense in summer league. It's going to be like that, I guess.
Our Utah Jazz squad isn't without talent, either.
Trey Burke and Dante Exum are stellar prospects to build around if you are a rebuilding team (forgetting all the C4 altogether). The team also has two other 2nd year players in Ian Clark and Rudy Gobert. However, I think the guy who could possible get open a lot today will be Rodney Hood! Or at least I hope so!!!
It's going to be an exciting and sloppy game at alternating points. Philly played last night, and flew into Vegas on the red eye. They may be a bit groggy as the Jazz got in last afternoon. If you're going to take a swing at the champs, do it when they are dazed!
