FIBA World Cup 2014: Day 2 -- Can Rudy Gobert and Raul Neto get more playing time?

More games!

Christopher Hanewinckel-US PRESSWIRE

Hey all, yesterday we saw some crazy things. Rudy Gobert played big, had some big dunks, and his team still lost to the dynamic and flashy offense of Raul Neto. Well, France and Brazil weren't really relying on those two guys, as their squads had plenty of NBA talent.

Carlos Arroyo had a bad game and his team lost. Dante Exum and Brock Motum are after thoughts on their squad as well. And what about Erik Murphy? I didn't even watch that game from yesterday because I knew it would be bad. He did have 10 points and 7 rebounds against USA, which is much better than any of his summer league games.

Anyway, today . . .

6 Aug 31 ??? Group D South Korea vs Australia Dante Exum Brock Motum
7 Aug 31 ??? Group B Argentina vs Croatia Ante Tomic
8 Aug 31 7:30 AM MT Group A Serbia vs France Rudy Gobert
9 Aug 31 8:00 AM MT Group C Finland vs Ukraine Erik Murphy
10 Aug 31 10:00 AM MT Group A Brazil vs Iran Raul Neto
11 Aug 31 9:30 AM MT Group B Senegal vs Puerto Rico Carlos Arroyo

Two games are already over.

  • Australia destroyed South Korea (89-55), and in garbage time Dante Exum had 4 points, 3 assists, 1 steal, and was a +12 in +/-. That's not impressive when your team wins by over 40 points though. Brock Motum had 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal.
  • And Croatia beat Argentina 90-85, in another close game for the former Yugoslav republic. Ante Tomic finished with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and went 5/6 from the FT line. Perhaps he's not going to dominate teams by himself, but he doesn't have to with hos strong his team is (not strong as in "we have 8 NBA guys" like France or some teams seem to have, but strong as in "these are good players" strong.)

IF you are paying attention so far, which players do you think have looked good? Which teams are winning more than you thought they would?
