According to the media advisory send out by the Idaho Stampede, the NBA D-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz will be holding an open try out today. It takes place at 11:30 AM at the Boys & Girls club of Ada County, in Garden City, Idaho. Chances are that if you are finding out about this try out through a blog then you probably aren't going to be playing professional basketball this year. It may be a great chance for undrafted rookies or other NBA hopefuls to showcase their stuff in front of the Idaho and Utah braintrusts.

The Jazz look to 'take the D-League seriously, for reals this time' in the upcoming season. There are a number of candidates who will be likely Stampede players this season who are already signed by the Jazz in Rudy Gobert, Toure' Murry, Kevin Murphy, Ian Clark, Carrick Felix, Jack Cooley, Dee Bost, Brock Motum, and perhaps even draft picks Dante Exum and Rodney Hood.

All of those players (aside from the rookies Exum, Hood, and Motum) have NBA DL experience already. As a fan you expect that guys like Rudy Gobert, Dante Exum, and Rodney Hood will be rotation players with the Jazz this year. But you never know . . . what we do know is that no Jazz site will give you better Idaho Stampede coverage than SLC Dunk this year, because Diana Allen (you know, a former credentialed Jazz reporter for an actual newspaper) will be on the case.

At the end of the day this tryout will be for the players who will be competing for playing time against the Jack Cooleys and Dee Bosts of the world, not the Derrick Favors or Alec Burks -eses. I can only expect that you do see some weekend warrior types.

I can only hope.

The bottom line is that with the Stamps filling out their roster, under the watchful gaze of the Jazz franchise, we know that the NBA season is inching closer and closer. And that's the best news of all!
