Is Rudy our best player?

Maybe. Hayward and Favors are his only competition on the Jazz.

Let's look at some All NBA level accolades. Note that most of these come from basketball reference.

Gobert -

  • #1 in NBA in block percentage at 7.9%, #6 in NBA in blocks per game with 1.9
  • #3 in NBA in Defensive Box Plus/Minus at 3.6
  • #6 in NBA in offensive rebound percentage at 14.9%, #7 in NBA in rebound percentage at 20.2%
  • #1 in NBA at opponent FG% at rim (38.5%, minimum 5 FGA per game)
  • He leads the Jazz in
    • FG% at 0.634 (doesn’t qualify for all NBA because of too few attempts, would be #3 all NBA).
    • Defensive WS at 0.9, DRtg of 103
    • WS/48 at 0.19.
    • Box Plus/Minus at 4.
    • FTr at 0.577

Hayward –

  • #8 in NBA in minutes played, #10 in NBA in minutes per game
  • #8 in NBA in Free Throw Attempts and #11 in Free throws made, with 154 made out of 192
  • #19 in NBA in PPG with 18.9
  • Tied for #20 in NBA with 59 3 point FGs
  • Tied for #19 in NBA with 85 TOs
  • #18 in NBA in offensive win shares with 2.6
  • He leads team in
    • OBPM at 2.9
    • Tied for WS at 3.2
    • VORP at 3.0
    • 3 point % at 0.393 (>500 minutes)
    • Steals, TOV
    • Second in steal, usg, and assist %

Favors –

  • #7 in NBA in FG% at 0.546, #19 in eFG%
  • #16 in NBA in Rebounds per game (8.4), #18 in NBA in total offensive rebounds (87)
  • #11 in NBA in blocks per game (1.6), #18 in block % (4.0)
  • #14 in NBA in PER (22.1)
  • He leads team in
    • PER at 22.1
    • Lowest TOV% at 9.8% (>500 minutes)
    • Tied for WS at 3.2
    • 2-pt FGA at 11.5 and makes 6.3

I'll let the statistics speak for themselves. Gobert is 22 years old, but he has shown that he is an All NBA level defensive talent. He just needs the minutes to be top 3 in blocks and top 10 in rebounds.

My only question is why Quin isn't playing him 30 minutes per game? And when do we need to offer him a max contract?
