Utah Jazz waive Patrick Christopher, roster now only 14 players

The revolving door of NBA-DL players continues

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The Utah Jazz announced late tonight that they have waived shooting guard Patrick Christopher. Here's what they had to say from their presser:

SALT LAKE CITY (January 5, 2015) - The Utah Jazz announced today that the team has waived guard/forward Patrick Christopher. Following the move, the Jazz roster now stands at 14 players.

Christopher (6-5, 219, California) was called up by Utah from the NBA Development League's Iowa Energy on Dec. 10 and appeared in four games (one start) for the Jazz, averaging 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 7.3 minutes.

I feel bad about waiving someone who is injured -- on the job -- for the job you hired them for. But I guess that makes me a sucker. Then again, I come from a place where some people purposefully go on disability by cutting of fingers they don't think they need, in order to have some company pay them for not working. (Yes, a real thing that happened.) That's not the case for PC, who signed a 2 year deal, that was non-guaranteed back in December.

Now the Jazz roster stands at 14, and it's likely that Elliott Williams will join the team, and be the third NBA-DL guard signed in the last few weeks (the other was Elijah Millsap which was like two days ago, right?).

I wish Christopher a speedy recovery, and I hope he finds a squad when he's ready to play again. I felt like he could be a "Three and D" player at the NBA level. Time will tell if he will be, though.
