Catching up with the standings for both the West Playoffs and the NBA Lotto

For whatever reason we continue to track both the NBA Playoffs and the NBA Draft, and how the Utah Jazz stack up in both cases. Utah is very unlikely to make the playoffs, but it's our natural predisposition to see where they are in the West. Old habits die hard. The new habit of tracking ping pong balls is one we want to break away from, going to the lotto year after year. Anyway . . . on to what happened while you were sleeping last night! [THIS IS THE SAME TEXT FROM YESTERDAY]

What Happened Last Night:

  • GSW (1) beat PHX (10) 98-80, Dubs W gives them 50
  • MEM (2) beat CHI (E) 101-91, seems like the Grizz can beat anyone but UTA
  • LAC (5) beat MIN (15) 89-76, no surprise there either.
  • NOP (9) beat MIL (E) 114-103, still #playoffpushin'
  • DEN (12) beat NYK (E) 106-78, NY plays in UTA tonight
  • ATL (E) spanked SAC (13) 130-105, no surprises there

Remember when Phoenix was a thing? And wanting to be the "Next" Phoenix was a thing? Sacramento remembers. So does Utah, I bet.

The Dubs are the cream of the crop; I don't see anyone getting close now unless they take the foot off the pedal. The OKC/NOP race is going to be deadly down the stretch.  The only thing I am really keeping my eye on is the PHX/UTA race, for reals. I could care less about the rest of the West at this point in time. It's only 5.5 games left, with 20 games left for the Jazz, and 17 for the Suns. It can happen.

You probably don't care, but there's a lot of flipping going on nightly at those 9 to 14 spots. But like the race to be best in the West, most of the bad teams are so much worse that no one will catch them.

What Big Games are happening tonight?

  • NYK (1) @ UTA (10) -- Let's get a win!
  • ORL (5) @ IND (14) -- Magic have won 2 in a row, Indy 5.
  • DET (8) @ LAL (4) -- Pistons have lost 6 in a row, Lakers 5.
  • NOP (17) @ BKN (9) -- Nets are right in front of the Jazz, and Pellies are trying to make the playoffs

That DET/LAL game may be fun to watch if you like sports but also hate yourself.

Another fun night, hope the Jazz win. It would be devastating to lose to the Knicks at this point in time.
