I read some articles that said USA Basketball should have invited Derrick Favors for a tryout. When I looked at their roster though I don't understand why he would even want to. Here's a list of their big's (PF, C, and PF/C, but not PF/SF) LaMarcus Aldridge, DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, Andre Drummond, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan, Kevin Love, and Mason Plumlee (why was he invited?). I think the roster max's out at 12 and there's currently 34 people that were invited, so roughly 1 in 3 will make it. Derrick is my 2nd favorite Jazz player, but he can't beat most of these guys for a roster spot. There's only two players there that he's better than, Mason Plumlee and probably Andre Drummond.
Derrick is better off staying at home and just relaxing. Let your body heal and don't do anything where there's an injury risk. It sounds like he's disappointed for not being invited but I think it's a good thing and he and the Jazz are better off with him staying at home. I bet 4 years from though he will have developed his game so that he gets an invite and then maybe he tries out and has a realistic shot, but for now why waste your time and risk an injury when you're probably not going to make the cut anyway?
