Dallas Mavericks at Utah Jazz Game Thread

Okay, this is the second home game of the 2016-2017 season, the Utah Jazz (2-2) are facing the rested and ready Dallas Mavericks (0-3). Their main man, Dirk Nowitzki is back in action after missing the last two games. The Jazz played last night. They need a win. Utah wants one. Will need outweigh want tonight? Or will Utah rise up to the challenge again and prevail?

Jazz need to control the pace of play, get the rebounds, and watch out for their ability to beat us one on one.

Texas is big, and spread out apparently. The Jazz fanbase is concentrated in state. And this is a home game. That should be huge for the 40 home games left on the schedule.

Mavericks Roster:

Dirk is back. Devin Harris is still out. J.J. Barea and Wesley Matthews are both still questionable/doubtful. But I think both play. They need a win. Tonight could be one to get. They shoot well, but have been snake bitten in their first three games down the stretch. This is a team trying to win a title still. And that means having to beat up on "young" teams like the Jazz. They have legit size, but most of their talent is outside the paint. It's going to be interesting to see how they try to exploit the Jazz defense.

Gordon Hayward is still out. Alec Burks ditto. Boris Diaw didn't play last night, and isn't going to play tonight either. So that is a vote of confidence for Trey Lyles a little bit, right? Yes. The Jazz bench has been hit or miss. Hopefully Derrick Favors, who played -4 mins from his minutes restriction last night and sat out the entire second half, will be able to go for a full serving tonight. His versatility is going to be needed against Dirk.
