NBA Playoffs 2016: Western Conference Standings -- While you were sleeping March 1st, 2016

New, comments

Who won, who lost, and why do you care

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

There were only seven of the 15 Western Conference teams in action last night. Let's take a look at what happened while you were sleeping...

2015 2016 WYWS - March 03 01 2016

The Good:

  • Thunder beat Kings -- Sactown is behind Utah, so in this oblique way, this keeps them 3.5 games away
  • Bucks beat Rockets -- Houston can't shake Utah if they keep losing as well, there is only 0.5 games between them

The Bad:

  • Grizzlies beat Nuggets -- If anyone is going to catch Memphis they need to actually start losing, they didn't
  • Celtics beat Jazz -- regardless of everything else, Utah needs to win games. And they didn't last night, and have now lost three in a row

The Meh-ly:

What's happening tonight?

Outlook:

The Utah Jazz need to start putting it together because they are now 3 games below .500 and they don't have unlimited chances to make ground on the teams directly above them.  They have 23 more games this season, with only 10 at home, and 17 against the West. It's not going to be easy. But very rarely are worthwhile accomplishments easy.

In direction comparison with Houston, they have to play fewer games overall, and fewer against the West. Against Portland, well, they also have an easier road. Frankly, Utah is the better team. It's about time they remembered that.
