NBA Playoffs 2016: Western Conference may end up being a battle of conference wins

Tie breakers matter, and one of them could be hard for Utah to compete in

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Utah Jazz are in the thick of things right now in their #playoffpush. They are sandwiched between the Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, and the Sacramento Kings. They aren't close to being the top of the conference (unlike the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Los Angeles Clippers), but thankfully aren't anywhere close to being a ping pong ball watching team either (New Orleans Pelicans, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, or the Los Angeles Lakers). As mentioned earlier (see here for the whole shebang), they need to win some conference games if they want a chance of winning some of the potential tie breakers they may end up in after 82 games are all in the books.

So let's look at the Conference games, who has won, and who has the most left to play!

2015 2016 Western Conference Games Played Won Remaining

As you can see, the Jazz (and Wolves) both have the most games to play against the West. Utah plays Minny tonight, so that even works out better -- if you are anal retentive. The sad thing is that Utah is kinda behind their group in how many wins against the West they have. Utah only has 21 wins, while Dallas has 23, Houston has 24, Memphis has 25, and Portland has 26.

ALL of Utah's remaining games are against the West, so at BEST they can really reach 25 wins for sure. But I don't know if they will surpass the teams they need to.
