The 2015-2016 Utah Jazz season is over. All those lucky socks that resulted in numerous painful close losses have finally been washed. The Stockton and Malone jerseys have been returned to their offseason resting place in the closet. The NBA League Pass app has been deleted from your phone, and it's time to rediscover what it's like to not have firm plans after 7:00 MST again.
But beneath it all, the urge of Jazz fandom runs deep.
You keep checking twitter as if there's another game to be played.
You keep refreshing SLCDunk.com eagerly waiting for some news to break.
You check the injury report out of habit, someone must have got hurt today.
You talk to your friends about the Jazz in present tense as if the Jazz could still make the playoffs.
You flipped the channel to Root Sports and watched a Rockies game. You're not even a Rockies fan. You just wanted to see those familiar graphics and commercials.
You keep telling your wife about how you think Dante Exum grew and is now 6'9", you think. It's hard to tell from the photos. But you know.
If you have done even one of these things, you're an addict. A Jazz addict.
You're a glutton for pain and remorse. But luckily there's a 7 step plan for recovery. If you follow this plan you'll slowly feel the pain of missing the playoffs turn into hope and excitement for the next season. Guaranteed.
2016 NBA Draft
What's that little bit of glimmer in your soul? It's hope returning to the body. The pain and sorrow of Rudy Gobert's injury is but a distant memory. Whoa, whoa, whoa, don't start crying. I'm sorry. That was inconsiderate. But you can cry here, it's a safe place. Are you okay? Good. Today is another chance for you to spread your wings and remember why you are a Jazz fan.
Take heart, Step 3 allows you to air your frustrations and feel hope for the future at the same time. Yes, this is the equivalent of eating a chocolate sundae while taking your frustrations out on a punching bag with a picture of your ex on it.
The 2016 NBA Draft will take place on Thursday June 23, 2016.
Remember that painful loss to the Los Angeles Lakers? Remember how you said that nothing would console you after that loss? Well, guess what. That loss allowed the Utah Jazz to go from possibly selecting 13th to selecting 12th in the draft. Allowing them a 2.2% chance of a Top 3 pick. What's better is that draft pick is even more valuable for teams on the open market.
"Why is that so important?", you ask through your tears.
The Utah Jazz look to be major players in the offseason when it comes to looking for trades. Dennis Lindsey, General Manager for the Utah Jazz, even said that he had green lighted two trades at the trade deadline that would have moved the Utah Jazz's now lottery bound 1st rounder. A team doesn't give up a 1st round draft pick unless it's getting something valuable in return.
We had two particular deals proposed to us that we said yes to. They were more short-term-oriented and I was willing to give up a first-round pick, multiple picks, a very significant salary slot because we had built that into the equation.
That points to an NBA Draft that is filled with fireworks. Dennis Lindsey is ready to deal this offseason which means the Utah Jazz are going to be linked to all types of rumors leading up to this draft. These will fill your blood with excitement and allow you to debate here on the site, on Twitter, and on Facebook about all the pros and cons of these possible moves. Soon the bitter aftertaste of April will be cleansed and you will be postulating how the Utah Jazz would fit Jimmy Butler into the offense or if Jeff Teague can coexist with Dante Exum. The possibilities will be endless.
The sheer joy that you will have running ESPN's Trade Machine into the ground will help you to heal your broken heart and possibly learn to love again. But that will come with time.
The best part about the draft is the Utah Jazz hold a draft party every year. You can join other grieving fans in this large group therapy session. Don't worry it's a safe place ... that is if you're not a 6'3" point guard out of Gonzaga. They tend to get booed at these draft parties.
