Why going after Kevin Durant makes us the ultimate team to surpass the Warriors!

I believe the Utah Jazz should go after KD because it will transform this team into a defensive juggernaut and give us a top 5 offense.

First of all, signing KD is well within the cap space of the Utah Jazz. We have plenty of cap with it going up and even if we hit luxury, this team would be worth it for many reasons.

Defensively, KD gives us a plus defender at all positions with a minor tweak. Dante Exum will be the pg, Gordon Hayward shifts to the 2, KD supplants the 3, and the Favors/Gobert combo fills out the front court. That puts us with a play 6'7 or taller at each spot. That is the most combined height and wingspan in the NBA and proven lock down defenders at all spots. Outside of the all-star game, this is the most intimidating starting five in the NBA. Add a backup center in the draft and we fill out our top 10/11 players. Mack, Hood, Burks, Lyles, and the center with Ingles and Neto in reserve.

Offensively, we benefit with both our first and second units. Our first unit gets Kevin Durant to control the ball, Exum and Hayward as wing shooters, and the big duo down low to set picks, post, and grab rebounds. The second unit gets the spacing fun of the warriors death lineup. Mack, Burks and Hood run the ball, set up for shots, catch and shoot and emulate a small-ball lineup. Lyles stretchs at the four with his shooting ability and offensive skills. The fifth player can do many things with this lineup. It can be a center to make it traditional, another strech 4 to space, or a big wing to really emulate a small ball team.

The downsides are minimal in this situation. Chemistry of the team may change when adding a high profile superstar or the lack of veteran presence could throw things whacky if tension builds up.

Overall, I think, with Quin Snyder being revolutionary at the helm, Kevin Durant makes this team a NBA finals contender and the ultimate kryptonite to the Golden State juggernaut. What are your thoughts?
