Backup Center Options

Using Yahoo's salary information, the Jazz currently have $79,009,790 in salary of a 15-man roster that includes Mack, Withey, and Neto but assumes Chris Johnson is waived (also assuming Joe Johnson is $11million). With a $94 million salary cap, the salary floor is at 90% of that total or $84,600,000. This means we are $5,590,210 under the salary floor and $14,990,210 under the salary cap.

Our thinnest position as it stands is Center. This could change if we run more small-ball with Derrick Favors at Center. However, the Jazz could miss valuable wins if Gobert sustains an injury. Withey has great abilities, but he may not be a contending team's backup center. The Jazz could look to trade for a Center under contract or sign one through free agency and waive/salary-dump a player on their roster.

Trade Options:

Kosta Koufas: 3 years and $25 million remaining

Kosta Koufas was drafted by the Jazz and traded to acquire Al Jefferson. He has both offensive and defensive skills and could comfortably play 16 minutes off the bench for Gobert and start if he was injured. Sacramento is unlikely to retain Rajon Rondo and Darren Collison is in trouble for domestic violence. A trade of Trey Burke + GSW/OKC pick may be enough to entice Sacramento.

Tiago Splitter: 1 year of $8.25 million

Tiago was acquired as a salary dump from San Antonio and made the Hawks offense and defense better while he was on the court. After injuring himself for the season, he may be available should the Hawks look to part ways in hopes of cutting salary

Andrew Bogut: 1 year of $11 million

The Jazz should not accept a salary dump if it helps the Warriors get Durant. However, Bogut is in the rumor mill and could be the odd-man out of Golden State if the Warriors pay a heavy price for Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli.

Spencer Hawes: 2 years and $12 million remaining

Charlotte may be looking to cut salary. A second round pick might be more than enough to get Hawes who would be a unique role player whose style contrasts with Withey's.

Nikola Pekovic: 2 years and $24 million remaining

Free Agents:

Most of these centers would either like to go somewhere where they can start or get a long-term contract. The Jazz cannot do either.

Zaza Pachulia, Ian Mahinmi, Dontas Motiejunas, Marreese Speights, Nene, Roy Hibbert, Miles Plumlee, Amare Stoudemire, Tyler Zeller, Cole Aldrich, Boban Marjanovic, Meyers Leonard, Anderson Varejao, Dewayne Dedmon, and Kevin Seraphin.

How would you have the Jazz use their remaining cap space?
