Donovan Mitchell continues our ranking of the the Utah Jazz roster by coming in 7th. This comes as no surprise, considering how he has played so far in a Jazz uniform.
Dennis Lindsey thought enough of Mitchell to move up 11 spots on draft night and get him at 13th overall. But if that night was redone, no way would 13th be high enough to select him again. He was already rated the 3rd biggest steal of the draft by NBA GM’s. And I’m also confident that the Denver Nuggets will stop fielding calls from Lindsey, unless wanting to hear who he is targeting.
Donovan was asked to do EVERYTHING in college, averaging 15.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.1 steals (he even got 0.5 blocks a game—make sure to watch his block starting at the 48 second mark of that highlight video). Because he had such a high usage, fitting into Quin Snyder’s offensive system could take a little time.
With the unfortunate injury to Dante Exum, Mitchell will see an increased opportunity right out of the gate. Personally, I haven’t been this excited about a Jazz rookie in a long time. I can’t wait to see how he performs this year.
