Utah Jazz and Nike Officially Debut Statement Gold Jerseys

The gold alternates really look better in real life.

Donovan Mitchell and Rodney Hood show off the Utah Jazz’s new threads.

Call us converted. The gold jerseys actually do look better in person. The Utah Jazz debuted their new “Statement” jerseys today that are unapologetically gold—as Jony Ive would say.

Take a look at the above video of Donovan Mitchell and Rodney Hood showing them off. Are we maybe swayed because Donovan Mitchell is wearing them? PROBABLY. But the jerseys look good.

The textures on the jersey actually do allow the green and blue to stand out a lot better. Are they better than Utah’s soccer jersey last year? No. But are they as bad as what the renderings and NBA2K screenshots appeared? Not by a long shot. Take a look.

If you do purchase one of these uniforms, Nike has something in store for you.

Using new NikeConnect technology, each adult-sized Nike NBA Connected Jersey will have an embedded NFC (near field communication) chip that will launch real-time team and player content such as pregame arrival footage, highlight packages and top players’ favorite music playlists – all on the jersey owner’s mobile device. Throughout the season, a wealth of exclusive offers and experiences will bring fans closer to the game they love.

To unlock it all, fans will download the NikeConnect app and tap the jersey with their smartphone. These jerseys become available online globally on Sept. 29, rewarding the game’s fans with a revolutionary experience that creates a new point of connection between fans and the game.

That’s right, your jersey will have an NFC chip that will update to a Nike app. You can be even closer to your favorite player. I don’t know if that last sentence was meant to sound that creepy. In any case, the jerseys look better than anticipated.
