With 53% of the vote, Dante Exum has placed 7th in the most Utah Jazz most valuable player rankings. His career certainly hasn’t started the way he or anyone in the Jazz organization was hoping. Due to some unfortunate injuries, the young Australian guard doesn’t have as much game time and development as you’d hope for in a guy now on his 2nd contract.
That being said, the potential is still there. So much so that Dennis Lindsey was completely confident giving him a 3 year $33 million dollar deal. Last year he was only able to suit up in 14 games, averaging about 17 minutes. He put up 8.1 points and 3.1 assists. The most memorable thing about Exum’s season was probably his defense on James Harden and Chris Paul in the playoffs.
That defensive play could keep him in the league a long time. If he can figure out how to use his speed and finish at the rim then he may be a key piece off Quin Snyder’s bench this year. Could this finally be the year that Utah gets to see what they have in their former 5th overall pick?
