Trey Lewis and Isaiah Cousins stand out in Stars loss to Kings

Missing Naz Mitrou-Long, Grayson Allen, Tony Bradley and Georges Niang was too much for the Stars to overcome

NBA: Utah Jazz-Media Day Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

With Grayson Allen, Georges Niang and Tony Bradley called up to join the Utah Jazz on their trip to Mexico City, the Stars were looking at a tough night facing the Stockton Kings. Add in that Naz Mitrou-Long was out with a left leg injury and it proved too much to overcome as the Stars fell to the Kings 114-91.

But there were some bright spots to take away from the game!

Trey Lewis was hitting a lot of threes.

Tonight Trey Lewis had the green light from three and shot 5/11. He had a significant impact on the game and it showed on the box score afterwards. In a 23 point loss Trey Lewis was a +4. It really shows you the value of having a prolific three point shooter and what it can do for a team.

Lewis was also sporting a Nike ninja headband which I am now a big fan of!

Isaiah Cousins really stood out.

Cousins was all over the floor. Of all the starters tonight, Cousins flourished the most while on the floor shooting 8/14 and hitting 3/5 from three. It would be great for the Stars, and the Jazz, if Cousins started showing a reliable jumper. That’s the thing that can take a player from prospect to contract.

The question I always ask myself when I’m watching a player is do they impact the game? Players will differing skill sets, but how do they impose those skill sets on the opponent. Tonight you saw that with Cousins as he used his length and athleticism to make plays and hit shots.

Willie Reed did Willie Reed things.

Probably the biggest constant for the Stars is that Willie Reed will score at a high percentage, rebound the ball and block shots.

The Kings shot a decent 36% from three but also 51% from the floor. Reed impacted shots and had 3 blocks in the game, but it didn’t impact the game as much as the Stars probably wanted.

I want to see more Willie Reed and so I plan to cover a lot more games. I think he definitely has a future in the NBA and possibly with the Jazz.

Going to Stars games is FUN!

For most nights I go to the Stars I’ll go as media. Tonight I went as a fan so I could take my girls for Princess Night. It was very worth it!

The Stars have a fun atmosphere and with it being a smaller venue they can do more interaction with fans then they do at Jazz games. If you’re looking for a good time and something fun for kids, check out the Stars games. And especially go when they have specialty nights like tonight or Star Wars night or Super Hero night. It’s great!
