He came. He blocked. He conquered.
Rudy Gobert was named to the 2017-18 NBA All-Defensive Team, as first reported by Shams Charania.
2018 NBA All-Defensive teams:
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) May 23, 2018
First team: Rudy Gobert, Anthony Davis, Victor Oladipo, Jrue Holiday, Robert Covington.
Second team: Joel Embiid, Draymond Green, Al Horford, Dejounte Murray, Jimmy Butler.
This is the second-consecutive season that Gobert has been selected for the all-defensive squad, which surely is a great honor and accomplishment for the Jazz leader and captain.
Interestingly enough, Gobert was not a unanimous selection for the first-team all-defense, and there were two individuals that didn’t vote for Gobert at all.

These mystery voters must not have watched the Jazz with/without Gobert this season, as his impact after returning from injury was the main factor that catapulted the Jazz in the standings and into the playoffs. Gobert is an elite defender, quite possibly the best in the NBA. Based upon the fact that he received the most total voting points for NBA All-Defense, it might be good indicator of Gobert’s odds to also win DPOY. Congrats to Rudy Gobert some additional well-deserved recognition.
