Jazz Rank: 15th belongs to Jarrell Brantley

Another 2nd round pick, two-way player off the board

Another vote, another 2nd round pick from this year’s draft. When the Indiana Pacers were on the clock with the 50th overall pick, the Jazz picked up the phone and made a call. Trading away some cash and a future 2021 2nd round pick, the Jazz got back into the 2nd round to make another selection. They had their eyes on College of Charleston star Jarrell Brantley.

Jarrell played all 4 years at Charleston, and got better and better every season. If I’m being honest, he’s one I had to do some research one when they called his name. His rise into the draft seems to have been a little later into the game.

But I can see why the Jazz front office made the move. Brantley definitely fits the mold of a type of player they are looking to find. He’s 6-7 and weighs in at 255 pounds, so he’s got great strength for his size. He also has an impressive 7-1 wingspan! Unsurprisingly, he shot the 3 ball well enough in college to believe he can improve and have that translate to the NBA as well.

He seems like a jack of all trades type guy, holding his own pretty well on the defensive end both down on the block and on the perimeter. His free throw rate also tells me he attacked the basketball quite regularly. And his highlight reel agrees, as he threw down some nasty dunks in his career.

He moves incredibly well for being built more like a linebacker. With that combination and his level of hustle and effort, I can see him carving out a nice bench role in the league someday. Along with Justin Wright-Foreman, he got the other two-way contract for the Jazz. That means he’ll see plenty of playing time with Stars while practicing regularly with the Jazz. I look forward to seeing what he can do with that kind of experience.
