Jazz Rank: William Howard voted 17th most valuable

New, comments

The Jazz added another Frenchman this summer

Up until his signing, William Howard was a complete unknown for me. But I’ve come to accept that that might not mean much. You know who else was a complete unknown to me at the time? Joe Ingles. And Royce O’Neale. And Georges Niang. So here we are again, but will the results be the same?

William Howard comes to Utah on a 3 year, mostly non-guaranteed contract. He’s looking to fight his way onto the roster through camp and presumably preseason. It’s an uphill battle, but you never know.

Like Jazz star Rudy Gobert, William Howard was born and started his basketball career in France. He was actually committed to play basketball for the University of Washington, but was unable to become eligible due to some English language exams. So he went back to France and played professional instead for BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque. He also spent some time with other French squads Denain Voltaire, Hyeres-Toulon, and Limoges.

The 25 year old, 6-8 forward seems to fit a certain build of player the Jazz are looking to find. He appears to have good athleticism and shoots the 3 at a respectable percentage for his size and length. Here are his career averages so far:

Oddly enough, I get some Thabo Sefalosha vibes when watching his game tape. He possesses some good all-around talent and might find his way onto an NBA roster. Could that happen with his first attempt in Salt Lake City? We wish him the best as he tries to do just that.
