Utah Jazz back in action at home vs San Antonio Spurs

Can they break the statement jersey curse?

NBA: Utah Jazz at San Antonio Spurs Daniel Dunn-USA TODAY Sports

After what felt like the longest All Star break in history, the Utah Jazz take the floor again this evening against the San Antonio Spurs. The Jazz are currently 4th in the West and just 1.5 games out of 2nd. With a 5 game home stand coming out of the break, now would be the perfect time to start another run.

The Jazz have won their last 4 games after that horrendous 5 game losing streak. The Spurs come to town just 10th in the West and are 3-7 in their last 10 games. These teams are going in different directions both short term and long term.

Let’s hope the good guys take care of business this evening.

What to watch for

The Statement Jersey Curse

In their worst jersey in franchise history, the Jazz are just 1-6 on the season. At 36-18 overall, that’s 13 of the losses in just 7 games. I was beginning to wonder if they canned the entire jersey after replacing it on a couple scheduled nights recently.

Personally, I’ll be happy to see this jersey go at the end of the year. Hot take, I’ll also be glad to see the City Jersey go. But that’s neither here nor there. What really matters is winning basketball games and I predict that will happen tonight, despite the terrible jersey.

Mandatory Highlight

Let’s go back to Tim Duncan’s rookie year and an absolute thriller in the 1998 playoffs.

Game Thread Ground Rules

Welcome to the SLC Dunk Game Thread.

Dunkers know how this thing works, but for you lurkers ready to make the jump to Dunker, we have a few guidelines. Remember to follow our community guidelines (no swearing, trolling, excessive use of Jerry Sloan’s name in vain, no personal attacks, no debates about Utah liquor laws, etc.). Remember to have fun. Anyone who dare blasphemes that Tim Duncan was a Power Forward (this means you, Pounding the Rock), Ben Simmons can hit threes, Gordon Hayward should not be booed, Donovan Mitchell is Monta Ellis 2.0, men should never cry, or John Stockton is not the best point guard of all-time will receive an automatic ban. Just kidding. But seriously.
