At Halftime Utah Jazz 39 - Atlanta Hawks 40
The Jazz have stayed in this one with defense. Or maybe it’s just the Hawks missing shots. Whatever it is, the second half will tell how much the Jazz are able to keep the Hawks from scoring all game. Jordan Clarkson’s shooting woes continue as he’s gone 1/8 from the field and 0/5 from three.
Bojan Bogdanovic also struggled in the first half going 2/8 from the field and 0/3 from three.
The 6-1 Utah Jazz begin an east coast road trip tonight against the 4-4 Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks haven’t quite hit their stride this season while the Jazz have rolled along to a 6-1 record with very little resistance.
Tonight’s test just got tougher with the news that Donovan Mitchell is out because of a sprained ankle.
UPDATED injury report:
— Utah Jazz (@utahjazz) November 4, 2021
*OUT - Donovan Mitchell (right ankle sprain)
*AVAILABLE - Jared Butler (non-COVID related illness)
*AVAILABLE - Royce O’Neale (right ankle sprain)
*AVAILABLE - Hassan Whiteside (left ankle sprain)
OUT - Rudy Gay (right heel injury recovery)
That makes things a lot tougher for the Jazz who have gotten some incredible play from Mitchell recently. This is likely to be cautious with Mitchell who turned his ankle last game but returned and played at a high level. We’ll see how cautious the Jazz are as the road trip continues but expect nights like this all season long as the most important thing for the Jazz is the playoffs.
This would be a great opportunity for Jared Butler to show his ability. It’s also a chance for Jordan Clarkson to hopefully come out of his slump. For the season Clarkson is shooting 20% from three. As a career mid-thirties 3-point shooter we’ll definitely see those numbers go up.
