Utah Jazz will look to end the series tonight against Memphis

Time to get this over with

Tonight the Utah Jazz will attempt to close this one out against the Memphis Grizzlies while up 3-1, something they weren’t able to do last playoffs against the Nuggets.

Although things are different this year. The Jazz came into the series as the one seed with the best record in the league, they have Bojan Bogdanovic back, and they plugged some of the holes in their rotation. It’s a much better team.

The chemistry is also better. Even though it was clear that the rift in the team between Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell was gone in the bubble, there were still looming contracts for Gobert and Mitchell on the horizon. Now, with both players paid and under contract, everything has fallen into place. Mitchell appears to have taken another leap and should be a perennial all-star and eventual all-nba player. Gobert will win his 3rd DPOY, will be all-nba yet again and is playing the best basketball of his career. The Jazz are complete.

Tonight, they can put a stamp on this series and put the frustrations in the past behind them with a definitive win against the Grizzlies.

What to watch for

Can Utah come out decisively from the start?

The Jazz need to make a big statement in this game from the start. The worst thing they can do is give the Grizzlies any hope in this one. This series should have been a sweep. The Jazz started this series weak by not playing Mitchell. To make up for that they’ll need to come out and put up a big lead.

Utah really does have Memphis mostly figured out at this point. The Jazz have gotten nearly everything they wanted and with every player the Grizzlies try to slow down, another player rises. The Jazz are a nightmare game of Whack-A-Mole for whoever they play. Double team Mitchell? Mike Conley is now free to shoot. Rotate on Conley? Now you’re got to worry about Bogdanovic. Your final swing man rotated to Bogey? Now Royce O’Neale is free and he’s shooting over 50% from three in the series. This spread offense makes the Jazz lethal and the Jazz need to make sure they move the ball and make things feel hopefull for the Grizzlies because, if we’re being honest, it is.
