The Utah Jazz have been thrilled by Markkanen’s growth into an all-star, especially seeing him sustain this level of play into this season. The Jazz have been struggling (10-17) and every Utah front office move in the past 18 months has indicated that the rebuild process is only beginning. With rebuild being the likely road, the biggest question the Jazz must face is if they will keep their 7-foot all-star. An important element of the Markkanen trade rumors is how Markkanen feels about the status of the organization and whether he is happy living in Utah. Sam Amick of the Athletic sat down with Lauri and asked him those important questions.
Lauri Markkanen's reported availability in trade talks is a reflection of a modern NBA reality, writes @sam_amick.— The Athletic NBA (@TheAthleticNBA) December 18, 2023
But if Utah's star had his way, he would be sticking with the Jazz.

Sam wonderfully summed up the conversation he had with Lauri in the article above. Lauri wants to put down roots, and he is happy with Utah and trusts that the organization is going in the right direction.
While it is important that Markkanen likes living in Utah and trusts the organization, that doesn’t mean that he won’t be traded. Mike Conley and Rudy Gobert both were recent all-stars who had on multiple occasions, expressed their love for the community and the organization. The Jazz still traded both of them. The Jazz traded both of them because the most practical move was for the Jazz to begin rebuilding after it became clear that the Mitchell/Gobert core was not going to win a championship. Will this be Markkanen’s fate?
With reports that organizations who have plenty of picks and promising young players like the Kings and Thunder are interested in acquiring Markkanen, Jazz fans must accept that Markkanen may be traded at the trade deadline or the next off-season. It’s good to hear that the Jazz will only trade Markkanen for another “Godfather-like offer” similar to what Rudy Gobert and Donavon Mitchell were traded for.
