With the third pick of the 2015 NBA Draft . . . the Philadelphia 76ersselect Emmanuel Mudiay from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Philly, like the Knicks, are going for broke with how their roster looked to end last season to how their roster will look at the start of the next one. They also went for broke trying to maximize their draft lottery potential. In this exercise I have them picked third, and that's still very, very good. There are a lot of ways this team could go here, but frankly I just think that Emmanuel Mudiay is the best player on the board. I have a well documented love-affair with guys with crazy names, and the Congolese guard (let's be real, all Congolese guards) is close to my heart. He went to high school in Dallas, and decided to go pro (in China) instead of take part of the corrupt NCAA system. I love that. But this pick is more about who he is the player, and less about my love of his life decisions. He's a big, young athlete who will be able to get anywhere he wants on the court. His athletic ability and rebounding prowess could make him a mix between Allen Iverson and Jason Kidd. He has the potential to be great, which I probably overvalue. Philly only has three guys coming back from last year: Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid, and Tony Wroten Jr. He and Wroten will really cause match-up problems next season for most all NBA teams. And while we don't know everything about Mudiay, I would easily see him be able to play (and defend) at the PG, SG, and SF in the Eastern Conference. Kid can't shoot, but his game is predicated on getting to the rim. And his body is as well.
