With the ninth pick of the 2015 NBA Draft . . . the Charlotte Hornets select Miles Turner from the University of Texas. I love this pick, because on the superficial level it's a great pick; and on the deeper level is the perfect pick. Let me explain. No, I do not think that Myles Turner is the best player available at this stage in the draft. But I do believe, 100%, that Michael Jordan is horrible at his job and will mess things up for Rich Cho. On the superficial level he has Top 10 talent, that's inarguable. The Hornets need a stretch big to pair with Al Jefferson and Cody Zeller inside. Marvin Williams started there last season, and the theory is that perhaps Noah Vonleh can be that guy. If he can't, someone like Turner will push him going forward - both are tall and have three point ability. In the "new NBA" that's what you want from the PF spot. Turner is big, has a high IQ, is athletic, can pass, can catch passes, he can block shots. This looks like a great fit, especially since it's better to go with a PF than add another wing to the whole Lance Stephenson, Gerald Henderson, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, P.J. Hairston, Troy Daniels mess at the wings. It's already a logjam without adding yet ANOTHER lotto pick to that soup. So far everything seems good. But here's the MJ angle. There are other good shooters on the board, but he has to pick the one that can't run correctly and is destined to be injured, or develop chronic knee injuries during his career that limits both his athletic ability (one of his selling points), and shortens his career. Michael Jordan is the Montezuma's Revenge for any General Manager. He will find a way to do something that looks great, but ends up just killing you and filling you with regret.
